With the new £10,000 grant that is going to be available to businesses currently eligible for Small Business Rates Relief, we have some guidance on how to help ensure you receive the grant when the local authorities start to contact businesses in early April 2020.
If you haven’t done so previously, we would recommend going to the following link (https://www.gov.uk/correct-your-business-rates) and ensuring you have claimed your business premises.
This can be completed by following the steps below:
– Search for your business address
– Click on your address/office/unit from the search results
– At the bottom of the page that appears there is a ‘Register’ button
– Follow the on-screen steps to claim your property (you will require some personal details and copy of your lease/similar document to upload).
If you already receive an annual rates letter from your local council which specifies that you have small business rates relief then you likely have already completed the above.
Please note that this is by no means a guarantee that you will receive the grant, but if you’re rateable value is below £15,000.00 then it should put you in the best position possible. All councils may approach the grant in different ways so if you do not hear from them by mid-late April then it will be worth contacting them to chase up the progress.
